A Gardeners Farewell

Sometimes life can seem a bit of a drag especially when our promise of a summer never comes and we are now saying goodbye to something we never had as autumn starts to set in. As gardeners we are forever the optimist as we are always looking ahead with enthusiasm. Summer comes to an end and we are busy planting bulbs for spring and look forward to seeing those early splashes of colour. This is quickly followed by our enthusiasm for getting ready for summer, sowing seeds and planning baskets and new areas of the garden. The same can be said for autumn as although we are sad to see the summer months go we are enthused by the stunning displays that autumn can bring. Always looking ahead in hope is a standard gardeners approach to the garden and has to be admired. This practice is something a friend of mine recently taught me to apply to life in general. Instead of plodding along looking back on what has gone or what we have lost we should look forward to future possibilities and embrace the changes that come along, in the same way that we embrace the potential the changing seasons bring us. Christine who some of you may know as the member Thorny whilst not the most accomplished of gardeners adopted this approach with everything thrown at her and as a result earned both my respect and admiration. Sadly after battling cancer for nearly a year Christine passed away a few weeks ago but still managed to give us all a good laugh at her ‘celebration of her life’ and reminded me how important it is to look positivley towards the future rather than look back sadly at the past.

So now rather than look back at the non existant summer that we have had lets look forward to the colours of autumn, the crispness of winter and the promises that spring will bring. And whilst I know a certain flower will no longer be coming up in my garden of life next year I Iook forward to the new seeds that will be sown as a result of her presence.

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to us, we are now 2 years old this month!
Firstly thank you to all who visit and register with us, your continued support keeps us strong and has enabled us to be what we are today. If you are reading this today as a new visitor to this site then many thanks for finding us and we hope that you enjoy reading and using our facilities!
We started with bare bones essentially, then gradually month by month a new section would appear, this does not sound a huge task but considering Kris and I have entered virtually all of the content that you see, thats lots of articles, adverts, recipes, garden centres, advice etc and taking in to consideration Kris’ poor health, my working full time and the shop for 6 months we are pretty pleased with our little achievment! So in a nutshell you can use our site to read through garden articles and advice, find delicious recipes and enter your own, find garden centre listings for the UK and rate them, find advice on hair, skin, hands and foot care, find garden events, browse our classifieds for specialists, enter our simple monthly competition, there is also a weekly fun quiz, and why not check out Mackenzie the Snail and his diary, he moves across the top of our screen and as the year goes by so does Mackenzie, his diary is packed full of advice, planting times etc! And there is so much more! So we hope that you enjoy your visit and like our regular users keep coming back and if you have any questions or queries then drop us a line.
