My First Garden Project - Hell!

Well I stumbled across some pictures the other day of what used to be my garden in Bristol when I lived there, many moons ago. I had quite forgotten just how beautiful the garden was when it was finished. Upon moving in to the house it was your typical Victorian end of terrace with 140ft garden, nothing had been touched, inside or out. The house had no heating had not been modernised probably since the thirties or decorated it had to be completely gutted. This was exactly the same for the garden, now I wish that I had taken before pictures because its hard to explain just how much work it took to get the garden looking like the pictures you can see now. The picture with this was as you walked out of the back door. To the left had side up to the gate used to be brick built outhouses and sheds which came down and where re-used in paths, beds and the patio area and steps that you can see. You could not see down the garden all through the middle and down either side where a range of different conifers that had been left to grow, it was very dark and you could not see the garden at all. There was no grass because the tree’s overhung, only moss existed. It was very dark, no living plants, no grass, horrid. I think you will agree it looks a lot better now hey?

The Next Idea !
This week i thought it a good idea to change a few plants positions around in the back garden …... so, i moved the Ceanothus from the right hand side to the back – a better position really and a trailing Escallonia (Little Treasure)to a bed where it can trail over an edge.
Then i moved some Carex oshimensis Evergold and Ophiopogon planiscapus Nigrescens from near sleepers to trailing over the edge of a raised border.
The middle and lower lawns are divided by sleepers (not my choice but i won’t be moving them any time soon!) and this week i decided to make a border ontop of and infront of them so as to disguise them a little.
I fancied some small grasses and small lavenders infront to give a fine wispy effect and ontop something small trailing over the front of it,
so this weeks addiction buy was …...(!)
2 Stipa tenuissima (really lovely, may get more!)
3 Lavandula blue cushion (lovely small neat ones)
4 Rosmarinus prostratus (again, nice small trailing ones).
There’s one little problem with the grasses and that’s the cats LOVE to play in/with them and 1 will nibble them.
One of my Carex has had a rough time this year but i can see that these lovely Stipa are really going to ‘cop it’ now.
The hard work has to be done now, a busy weekend ahead, making of borders then planting them up!
Get the Radox ready please on Saturday and Sunday!

‘My Gardening Project’ …. Addiction Fuelled !
This week i fed my addiction to plants again!
I had a corner bed in the front garden which i wanted to finish off. I knew what look i was going for and had planted there already Choisya T Sundance at the centre back, infront and to the left and right of it was Phormium Platts Black.
This week for the front row i bought 2 Carex – brunnea Jenneke, these are infront of the phormiums, 2 Heuchera – Key Lime Pie, these are still in front of the Phormiums but towards the middle and 2 Ajuga – Black Scallop these are still in the front row but opposite/infront of the Choisya.
This now finishes off my corner!
Now i’ll wait for the next idea to come to me!
By the way …..!
I DID buy the Crinodendron and am deciding where to site it!
