Herbs

Growing herbs can be a very rewarding pastime. Once you have picked and used fresh herbs from the garden you will realise that the plants and fresh leaves sold in supermarkets are bland in comparison. Herbs, like other plants, come in many different forms; shrubs, annuals and perennials but they all have one thing in common, unique flavours and aromas. It is amazing what a difference a simple bay leaf can make to a white sauce or what sprigs of lavender can do to your bath. All in all herbs are very easy plants to grow with harvesting improving the vitality of the plant and providing you with delectable tastes ands scents. Herbs have endless possibilities for creative planting, from being planted in pots, sinks, between paving as well as in formal herb garden. Whatever size garden you have you can always have a small collection of herbs to harvest through the summer.
Most herbs should be planted in gritty free draining soil and placed in a sunny aspect. Tender herbs such as Tarragon can be planted in containers and be brought in for the winter if necessary, robust herbs like Sage and Rosemary will appreciate being able to spread there roots and I would recommend planting them direct into the garden.
